The lack of support from Dr. Now to his patients is a failure of editing. We have seen, in the past, the long process before surgery, including visits with nutritionists, and support groups, along with therapy being required before surgery.
He may have made a few changes for the process to get the surgery when the show is paying versus when insurance is paying, but help is nowhere near non-existent, like the show leads us to believe. I think it is, in part, because they think it makes the patients more sympathetic when they fail. I think it would be better to go back to showing how it is an addiction, but TLC prefers the people on its network to be side-show characters for us to point and laugh at because it gets more attention. Not too many people here laugh, as we are a more sympathetic group as it pertains to this show, but follow Twitter or the Facebook group while it is airing and you see a lot of, "OMG! She is soooo fat." "How can she not kill herself?" and other disgusting comments.
Now anger is another thing, and we get full of piss and vinegar when it comes to how the people on this show treat their loved ones, especially their kids. As I said in James K's thread, addiction fuels some of their behaviors, but some people are just assholes, and James K is one of them.
