She had been born on a Menominee Indian reservation, it is very hard to say if birth records were being kept at that time, or even marriage records from earlier. She attended the Indian School at Flandreau, S.D. at the age of 13 til 17. She later moved to Milwaukee, then to Chicago.
She was the girlfriend of John Dillinger, the famous crime figure. In 1934, John Dillinger and Evelyn Frechette fled to Mooresville, Indiana, where they stayed with John Dillinger's father and half-brother until his wound healed. Then Frechette went to Chicago to visit a friend, and was arrested by the FBI. At the time of Dillinger's death, Ms. Frechette was at the Federal Correctional Farm in Milan, Michigan for "harboring John Dillinger." After her release from prison, she toured with Dillinger's family for 5 years in a show called "Crime Didn't Pay" answering questions about Dillinger.
