Eagles need to add this to the playbook! Rutgers incredible fake QB sneak against Ohio

One of the biggest talking points in the NFL for the past couple of years has been the Philadelphia Eagles tush push play. A QB-sneak play that has created a mark of its own in the league. The play has been legal since 2005, but the Eagles of 2022 and 2023 have taken it to

One of the biggest talking points in the NFL for the past couple of years has been the Philadelphia Eagles’ ‘tush push’ play. A QB-sneak play that has created a mark of its own in the league. The play has been legal since 2005, but the Eagles of 2022 and 2023 have taken it to another level. They have converted more than 80% of their tush push plays for first downs this season.

Every player on the offense works together for this play to be successful and QB Jalen Hurts crosses the line almost every time. It’s a thing of beauty. But there have been calls to ban the play for good. It is as risky a play as it is beautiful. The NFL though, hasn’t paid a lot of heed to those calls. However, now the league knows what the Eagles will do for short gains, so they will be prepared. The best way to counter that? A fake QB sneak. How to do it? Rutgers style!

The Rutgers Scarlett Knights played the Ohio State Buckeyes earlier today. In a game that was dominated by the Buckeyes, the Rutgers football team gave everyone a moment of genius play-calling early in the second quarter. They decided to line up for a QB sneak on 4th and 1 at the 43-yard line. When the ball was snapped, everyone, including the announcers thought that the QB fumbled the ball while sneaking it in. However, out of nowhere, RB Kyle Monangai started running with the football.

He was eventually tackled in the redzone. It was the ultimate trick play as the QB, Gavin Wimsatt, faked the QB sneak and handed the ball to his RB. That play eventually led to a Jai Patel 22-yard field goal. The Rutgers lost the game by 19 points but gave their fans a great play to cherish. Monangai finished the game with 24 carries and 159 yards.

The Rutgers are now 6-3 for the season after their loss to the Buckeyes. Ohio State, on the other hand, has improved to 9-0 and are looking unstoppable. The Scarlet Knights will play the Iowa Hawkeyes in their next game on Saturday. More of these fakes, please!

Amazing. I thought the eagles were the only team in the 100+ years of football to succeed on a qb sneak.

Eagles will be running this play tomorrow

The Eagles have been using the ‘tush push’ to excellent effect as the team has converted more than 80% of their QB sneaks. This might work as a wonderful alternative for the Philadelphia-based team.
