A 13-year-old boy is accused of bringing a gun to school this week at East Jr. High in southeast Boise.

Boise Police says officers received word that a student at the school may have taken a gun to school on Wednesday. The school resource officer found the student, who was not armed, but learned he brought the gun and kept it inside his backpack on Wednesday.

There's no evidence the student made and threats with the gun. He also never removed it from his backpack, Boise PD says.

Officers found the gun Thursday and took it from the student's home. The boy faces possible criminal charges and school consequences.

It's the second gun-related incident of the week for Boise Schools. Earlier this week, authorities say Boise High students discharged a gun off campus during their lunch break.

Dear Boise School Parent/Guardian & Staff:

We would like to thank our students, staff, parents and law enforcement partners who helped the Boise School District respond to two separate incidents involving multiple schools today. Please know that no students and staff were hurt in these incidents and that our safety and security protocols worked as designed.

Upon the direction of Boise Police, we placed Lowell Elementary School in shelter in place today. Lowell was in shelter in place for about 20 minutes at approximately 12:10 p.m. due to police activity in the neighborhood. The shelter in place was related to a Boise Police Department investigation of a pellet gun allegedly discharged by some Boise High students off campus during the lunch period today.

In a separate incident at East Junior High, Boise Police Department and school administration investigated a report of a student bringing a gun to school yesterday. The student was immediately identified and the weapon was confiscated off-site and secured.

In each incident, the students face possible legal and school consequences, per the Boise School District’s Board Policy on weapons.

Our first priority each and every school day is the safety and security of our students and staff members. The Boise School District’s policies and procedures help us to accomplish this important priority.
